The Copernicus Science Centre is one of the biggest science centres in Europe. The exhibition is divided into six interdisciplinary galleries with over 450 exhibits. Here, music is as important as biology, and mathematics and architecture. Science enters the world of emotions. Even the visitors themselves can become object of observation.
Variety of exhibits collected in the area of several thousand square metres creates a space in which everybody has the opportunity to explore the new.
In the Copernicus Science Centre, there is the first robotic theatre worldwide. Actors – RoboThespians – are moved by compressed air. Instead of a heart, they have a 40-watt loudspeaker.
In the CSC, everybody can feel like a real scientist, bending over glass and test tubes, surrounded by spectrometers or electro-pneumatic set. Our laboratories enable visitors to experiment on their own. In the laboratories: physics, chemistry, biology and robotics, there is equipment used in the most modern laboratories across the world.
Around the building, there is a Discovery Park, the project of which was developed by engineers, artists and landscape designers. Apart from artistic exhibits presenting sound effects, there is also an outdoor gallery and summer stage.
The Centre is a co-organiser of the Science Picnic – the biggest outdoor event popularising science in Europe. Thanks to the engagement of scientists and interest of the public, we can be proud of impressive achievements at European level. In 2005, the Picnic was distinguished by the European Commission as one of 10 model European projects in the field of “Science and society”.
In June 2011, we opened one of the most modern planetariums in Europe. Under “The Heavens of Copernicus”, one can admire several dozen millions of stars. The spherical screen surrounds the audience, and the 3D-technology gives the feeling of immersion in the image displayed. In the planetarium take place sky displays, film screenings, lectures and meetings. The Heavens of Copernicus planetarium has its own production studio that creates original film screenings for our audience.
We are one of the youngest science centres, however we have managed to become one of top centres recognised as the most interesting and innovative across the world. A proof of the fundamental need to create such an institution and of great development aspirations of our society can be attendance success of the Copernicus Science Centre. Within less than 2 years since the opening, over 2 billion people have visited our centre.
The Copernicus Science Centre is a cultural institution, established and funded by: the Capital City of Warsaw, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the Ministry of National Education.
